Delays to the proposed Earystane wind farm have raised questions about projected costs and delivery dates.
The government had originally wanted it in place by the end of this year.
John Wannenburgh, Chair of the Manx Utility Authority, said the project remains at the pre-application stage, with estimated costs of around £40 million.
Around £3.7 million has so far been spent on pre-development work.
“No financial or contractual commitments have been made to construct a proposed wind farm,” Mr Wannenburgh told members.
He added that any decision to proceed would be subject to planning consent and funding consideration by Tynwald.
Frustration
Jason Moorhouse expressed frustration at receiving “no news” on costs, while Lawrie Hooper questioned why estimates had not changed despite significant delays.
“I would have expected a 12 month delay or two year delay to actually have had a significant impact on potential cost estimates,” Mr Hooper said.
He also noted the original target completion date of the end of 2026 was now unlikely.
Mr Wannenburgh responded that “cost estimates for the construction will be refined and updated prior to any funding application”.
He added: “It is not appropriate to commit funds to updating cost estimates on an ongoing basis. Projections are only updated following significant change to the assumptions underpinning the project.”
The MUA chair said he was “very much hopeful” a planning application would be submitted “very quickly, very soon”.
