Ramsey Swingbridge has been temporarily left in the open position after the recent hot spell caused its metal superstructure to expand.
The Department of Infrastructure says the expanded metal is catching on the causeways at either end of the bridge when swung into the closed position.
To avoid damaging the bridge’s mechanical gearing, the DoI has opted not to force it shut.
While the bridge remains open, commercial and leisure vessels can move freely through Ramsey Harbour from both directions.
Harbours Division is monitoring the situation and expects normal operations to resume once temperatures ease and the metal contracts. The forecast later in the week is described as favourable.
The DoI notes this is a recurring issue that has happened during previous periods of hot weather.
