His Majesty King Charles III will make his first official visit to the Isle of Man as Lord of Mann next week, marking a historic moment in the island’s constitutional and civic life.
His Majesty will address a special sitting of Tynwald at around 12:30pm on Tuesday (July 14), continuing a tradition begun by Queen Elizabeth II during her first visit in 1955. After the sitting, The King is expected to meet well‑wishers outside the Legislative Buildings on Bucks Road.
A garden party at Government House will follow, bringing together representatives from charities, community groups and organisations from across the Island.
Later, at approximately 1:50pm, His Majesty will visit the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway to mark its 150th anniversary. He will unveil a commemorative plaque at Strathallan Crescent and take a short ride on the restored double‑decker Tram No.18 – the world’s oldest in‑service tramcar.
Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer said the visit is “a significant moment in the history of the island,” while Chief Minister Alfred Cannan described it as “a proud occasion for the Isle of Man.”
Tynwald President Laurence Skelly added that The King’s address would be “an important occasion in the parliamentary history of the Isle of Man.”
The King has visited the Island several times before, most recently in 2012 during Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.
Motorists, mariners and drone operators are advised that road closures, marine restrictions and drone limitations will be in place.
