The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has paid tribute to John Wannenburgh MHK, saying he was “very much part of our Fire & Rescue Service family”.
Wannenburgh held political responsibility for the Service during his time with the Department of Home Affairs, where he became a strong supporter of firefighters across the island.
He was known for visiting stations, championing the Service within Government, and taking time to listen to crews.
Colleagues said he gave generously of his weekends, attending open days and charity car washes, a reflection of his approachable, community‑focused character.
Chief Fire Officer Mark Christian said the Service’s thoughts are with Wannenburgh’s family, friends and colleagues, thanking him for his leadership, counsel and unwavering support. He said Wannenburgh will be “greatly missed”.
