Douglas City Council has pledged to support a government scheme to put public artwork on a sea defence wall along Loch Promenade.
The local authority’s executive committee will back the Department of Infrastructure by providing funding for the manufacturing and installation of artwork panels.
Department of Infrastructure has already secured planning approval for the panels, which the council had agreed to illuminate.
Three local artists were commissioned to produce 15 designs celebrating Douglas and the Isle of Man’s heritage, culture and coastal environment.
While the artworks were included within the initial sea defence scheme, the costs of manufacturing and installation were omitted from the DOI’s funding bid.
So the council is proposing to contribute £16,000 towards the shortfall, with the DOI remaining responsible for managing and maintenance.
