Cost of Living a “Growing Worry” For Elderly

Age Concern Isle of Man is warning the cost of living is become an increasing concern.

Chief executive Maureen Cowbourne said: “The cost of living remains a growing worry for many of the people we support.

“Many have planned carefully throughout their lives but are now facing challenges beyond their control.”

She gave the warning as Isle of Man Energy donated £5,000 to the charity to support its work providing confidential information, advice, support and activities for people aged 50 and over.

Cowbourne said the demand for that advice and support remained significant, with many older people feeling the impact of rising living costs, particularly those on fixed or limited incomes.

“We are extremely grateful to Isle of Man Energy for this donation,” she said.

Understanding options

“This funding will help us continue providing information, guidance and support so people can better understand their options and access the help available to them.

“We are delighted that Isle of Man Energy has chosen to support our work in this way.”

The donation forms part of Isle of Man Energy’s wider commitment to supporting organisations that help island communities navigate financial pressures.

IoM Energy Chief Executive Graeme Millar said: “Age Concern Isle of Man provides a valued and trusted service for older people across our community, and we have enormous respect for the work the charity does.

“Many of the people using these services have contributed greatly to Island life over many years and deserve access to clear information, support and reassurance when circumstances become difficult.”
