Island Marks Dementia Awareness Week

Dementia Awareness Week 2026 begins next week with the Forget Me Not Isle of Man Admiral Nurses leading a programme of events alongside Older Persons’ Mental Health Services, Manx Decaf and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Awareness activity will run across digital platforms from World Alzheimer’s Day, sharing information on dementia, its different forms and the support available on the island.

A public Dementia Awareness Day will take place on Friday (September 25), on Regent Street next to Wetherspoons, from 10am to 4pm.

Specialist Admiral Nurses and partner organisations will be on hand for advice, conversations and guidance for individuals, families and carers.

Encourage Conversations

Lead Admiral Nurse Jeanette Hogg said the week aims to “encourage conversations, challenge misconceptions and remind people that they are not alone”, emphasising the importance of understanding each person’s experience.

A family supported by the service said having someone who understood their situation “was invaluable”, offering comfort and guidance through a difficult period.

The week concludes with a Hawaiian‑themed Dementia Disco at Douglas Golf Club on Tuesday, September 29, from 2pm to 4pm, offering an afternoon of music and connection for people living with dementia and their families.
