Trees Could Be Felled to Allow Fencing to Go Up

The Department of Infrastructure has applied for planning permission to install fencing around a building which caught fire earlier this year.

It is looking to put up “palisade fencing” on the Heritage Railway Line side of the Union Mills industrial estate to provide “medium to high level” of security to the site.

The department will also need to fell 13 trees to make room for the new fencing.

The old Marown Engineering building caught fire in January and caused the public footpath to be closed for several hours.

The building is used for storage purposes.

The application is currently pending consideration.
