Double Delight for Bullish Bostock

Matthew Bostock at Glasgow 2026

Matt Bostock has delivered a stunning ride to take a solo victory in the scratch race at the 2026 Tissot UCI Track World Championships in China, his second medal of the meeting.

Mere minutes after being called to the podium alongside his bronze medal-winning team pursuit squad, the Glen Vine man returned to the boards, looking to upgrade his result.

Immediately, the 29-year-old looked to animate the race, hurtling off the front of the bunch. However, After his fourth placed finish in the same event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games earlier this year, he was a marked man.

A high-speed game of cat and mouse ensued, as the favourites, Bostock included, stalked one another.

The lull in proceedings was swiftly ended when Swiss rider Alex Vogel launched his race-defining attack with 18 laps to go, quickly building an advantage of over half a lap. The Manxman sensed the danger and responded in kind, going on the offensive five laps later.

The race splintered behind him as the chasing pack struggled to organise themselves, their hesitation allowing Bostock to eke out a sizeable gap. He motored by the fading Vogel, electing to go solo for the remainder of the 40 lap contest.

Behind, the main group containing the Netherlands, France and a host of other big players looked at one another, unwilling to take up the mantle as Bostock’s lead ballooned. with five laps remaining, he had almost lapped the field.

Finally, a reaction came from Belgium, as Lindsay De Vylder set off in pursuit of the flying Manxman, but it was too little, too late.

The Manx rider rounded the final banking, his head hung in exhaustion, to claim the 2026 UCI Scratch Race World Championship. Tom Sexton of New Zealand took silver, with the chasing De Vylder in the bronze medal position.
