Douglas North MHK Damian Ciappelli has pledged to help find a new tenant for the Manor pub in Willaston, which is about to close..
The closure was announced at the weekend by Heron and Brearley, explaining the tenure was about to come to an end.
Ciappelli said news that last orders will be called on October 24 was disappointing both to Willaston and the wider community.
He said: “I am aware that the search for an alternative tenant has been commenced by the landlord. I believe that the venue offers a real opportunity for an enterprising operator to take advantage of the significant goodwill associated with it.
“I am hopeful that an alternative service provider will be identified in early course.”
Ciappelli said he was willing to “assist stakeholders in whatever way I can to ensure the venue continues to serve the community”.
Challenging Time
The MHK said: “I recognise the conclusion of the current tenancy will be unwelcome news for the Willaston and wider community at a challenging time for such venues.
“I am optimistic that in early course the Manor will re-open and continue its long-standing role as an important community hub in the centre of this large close-knit community.”
He added: “Such community hubs occupy an important part in the life of Isle of Man communities. They provide a community focal point, facilitate social cohesion as well as being a source of social interaction and well-being.”
To mark the night on October 24, the pub will host an Oktoberfest-themed farewell evening from 8pm.
Free tickets for the event will be available from the bar from today (October 19). Tickets will be issued on a first come, first served basis to manage numbers and comply with fire safety regulations.
