Ice Rink Proposal for Former Car Park Site

Proposals for a temporary ice rink in Douglas have been submitted to government planners.

The idea is to use the former Lord Street car park and to place a “a seasonal ice rink” inside a marquee, measuring 12 metres by 42 metres.

It would operate on the site – once the home of Douglas bus station – from December 12 until January 10.

The application for planning approval is by Frosty’s Wonderland Isle of Man Ltd, which says the marquee would be put up no sooner than 10 days before, and removed within 10 days of the end of its function.

In a letter accompanying the application, Frosty’s says the ice rink would have opening hours of 10am to 10pm.

Christmas Market

“The marquee will house an 11m x 30m Christmas-themed ice rink, skate hire facilities and a Christmas market, together with a fenced 12m x 5m chiller and storage compound containing two storage containers used to transport the rink.”

The company has managed temporary festive ice rinks before and the proposal follows the same model, it says.
