Airport Works Total £100m+ Over Next Decade

Ronaldsway Airport Air Traffic Control Tower

Action plans for Ronaldsway include spending proposals of up to £120m over the next 10 years.

The majority of this will be for the remedial and strategic actions outlined in a report about the airport’s future.

Minister Tim Crookall said his department is working on a draft masterplan which is expected to be presented to Tynwald in Q4 of 2024.

He said: “The core basis for this will be the remedial and strategic actions, which are identified on page 23 of the Isle of Man Airport; Function, Future and Form document of April 2023.

“The cost of those actions, as written in the future form and function document were circa £120m over the next 10 years, but work is ongoing to validate these requirements and costs.

“Of the projects listed, the Airfield drainage project has been progressed to design phase, with a fund application being progressed for the total construction cost.”

Report

That 2023 report outlined several areas at the airport which require improvement, the remedial to do list included Air Traffic Control, security upgrade, parking and surface access and terminal redevelopment.

The strategic actions include works on hangars and “general aviation”, as well as the 10-year asset plan and the contingency airfield (Jurby).
