It’s rare that a weekend goes past without some excellent ‘away’ performances by athletes from the Isle of Man, and this has been no exception.
For the second time in a couple of weeks, U11 athlete Leighton Curphey won his age group race at the Red Rose Cross-Country League, this time at Towneley Park in Burnley on Saturday.
His victory margin in a 51-strong field was seven seconds over a highly-rated young athlete who Leighton also raced (and beat) on the track this summer.
Leighton will also contest the next round at Sefton Park in Liverpool next month.
Off-Island Success
Ollie Lockley returned to one of his favourite races, the Valencia Half Marathon, on Sunday.
He set his second fastest time of 1:03:28 to finish in an overall 62nd position in a very high-class international field; There were more than 28,000 in the race.
Ollie’s only faster time, which was 1:03:01, was also achieved in Valencia five years ago.
