A couple have been refused permission to appeal the repossession of their former home after making “baseless” fraud accusations against lawyers and court officials.
Richard and Maureen Wilmot sought to overturn a judgment, a case management order and a possession order relating to their property Langdale in Kirk Michael.
They claimed Cains Advocates had been “colluding with the suspects defrauding us of £1.5m to mislead the court” and alleged bias against an acting deemster.
Judge of Appeal Anthony Cross KC dismissed the applications as “totally without merit”.
The judge noted Mr Wilmot’s recent UK convictions for fraud and forgery, stating: “He is a dishonest person.”
He added: “Claims of apparent conflict, associations with Freemasonry, hinting at the court staff’s acquiescence in some form of conspiracy are baseless and made deliberately to cause maximum hurt and distress for the recipients.”
An Extended Civil Restraint Order was imposed for two years, preventing the Wilmots from issuing further proceedings without permission.
