Are The Hotels Full?

The claim by Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston that Manx hotels are “full all season” has sparked disagreement among Tynwald members, with several citing direct feedback from the industry.

Manx.News understands that the comments have been met with some surprise by a group of hoteliers who

Mr Johnston said during the Biosphere Levy debate: “Our hotels are full all season. That’s why we’re building more.

“That’s why we have more hotels in planning.”

However, his comments were immediately challenged.

Gaps

Julie Edge highlighted seasonal variations: “All our hotels are full? No worse than last year, but no better. The minister doesn’t account for out-of-season 30% occupancy.”

Rob Callister added: “I sat on the tourism board for six years. If you speak to industry, there’s still room for gaps later in the season and at the beginning.

“Many hoteliers this year are telling me they are not full all season.”
