Public Health officials are urging residents to ensure they are fully vaccinated against measles following a rise in cases in England.
That rise has also seen the death of a child at Alder Hey Hospital.
Dr. Matt Tyrer, Director of Public Health, said: “We are aware of the rising cases of measles in England, especially London and Merseyside, and the sad death of a child at Alder Hey.
“At this time we have not been notified of any measles cases in the island.”
He added: “Measles can be a serious disease, it is highly infectious and can result in life-changing complications. It can spread very quickly in places such as nurseries, schools and healthcare settings if people have not had two doses of the MMR vaccine.”
Authorities are encouraging vaccination, particularly for at-risk groups.
Dr. Tyrer said: “The best way to protect yourself from measles is to get two doses of the MMR vaccine. Two doses will give lifelong protection.”
Symptoms include cold-like signs followed by a rash. Anyone suspecting measles should phone their GP or MEDS before attending.
