An exhibition of art created by young people in care and care leavers was a “huge success” this month.
The event was held at the iMuseum in Douglas featured no less than twenty artworks, a musical performance and artwork station where attendees could pick up a pen if they chose.
The exhibition was hosted collaboratively between Manx Care’s Voices in Participation and St Christopher’s (Isle of Man) as an opportunity for the young people to openly share their work.

Voices in Participation
The Voices in Participation (VIP) project was established in 2009 and aims to enable children and young people in care (7 -25) to influence and have a voice in policies and procedures which impact their lives.
The project strives to encourage all young people to participate in sharing their voice in a way which is meaningful for them.
St Christopher’s (Isle of Man) is a children’s and young people’s charity established in 2004.
In partnership with Manx Care and other agencies it provides services and support to children in care on the island, their families and the wider community.
Creation of Art
Manx Care’s Children’s and Families Participation Officer, Christopher Walker, commented: “We had a fantastic turnout from artists, carers and colleagues.
“This event was a chance for the young people to showcase their talents and some even went the extra mile to learn songs and perform them for the attendees.
“Ensuring young people are heard and are able to express their feelings is imperative to their development. I am incredibly proud of all the young people who were brave enough to put their work out there and the team who work tirelessly to support them.”
