Athletics Action Home & Away

The winter athletics season action continues this weekend with plenty of action happening on and off island.

Off the island we have seven cross-country runners competing in the Liverpool Cross Challenge at Sefton Park.

Whilst at home the second rounds of the Winter Walk League and the Western AC Trail Run both take place on Sunday morning.

Athletics Action

The seven athletes from the Isle of Man (three currently resident in the UK) who are entered for the Liverpool Cross Challenge on Saturday are:

  • Leighton Curphey (U11 Boys);
  • Hope Lewis (U15 Girls);
  • Cai Lewis (U17 Men);
  • Sam Perry (Junior Men);
  • Sarah Astin (Senior Women);
  • Laura Dickinson (Senior Women);
  • Jamie Hayes (Senior Men).

The U20, U23 and senior races are the Great Britain selection trails for the European Cross-Country Championships which takes place at Antalya in Turkey two weeks later, so the fields will undoubtedly be very strong.

Events at Home

For information on the two local events on Sunday morning, refer to the Manx Harriers and Western AC outlets for the Winter Walk League and Trail Run respectively.

There was an excellent entry for the first round and it would be great to see similar this time.

There are races over 1km, 2km and 3km for younger walkers, and a choice of 5km or 10km for the older ones.

Don’t forget also that the second round of the Group Eleven Cross-Country League takes places at the Horses’ Home a week on Sunday (December 1).

Entry information has been posted on the IOM Athletics Facebook page, and more detailed information about the event will be issued during the course of next week.
