Baby Loss Certificate Cut-Off to be Removed

Island parents who lost a baby before 2018 will be able to apply for a certificate after a change in policy.

Manx Care has said it will follow the UK in removing the 2018 deadline.

Sharing the news Douglas South MHK Sarah Maltby said she had been contacted by parents who wanted to know why the cut-off date had been chosen when the service was announced.

She said: “I contacted Manx Care as I was asked by a few people why the date of 2018 was chosen as the ‘Cut off’ and if this could be reviewed as many people have lost a baby before 2018 and felt this was unfair.”

In response, Manx Care said that as the UK government announced it was removing the cut-off date and therefore offering baby loss certificates to any families who lost a baby before 24 weeks no matter when their loss happened, it would be “following suit”.

Mrs Maltby said: “𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱.”

The Manx system is due to go live next month.
