Bassy Picks Training Squad

National men’s team manager Chris Bass jnr has unveiled his training squad for this summer’s fixtures.

The summer marks the start of a three-year ‘Road to Gold’ campaign ahead of the Island Games on home soil in 2029.

The 36-player selection blends experienced senior players with emerging young talent from across the Island.

“Choosing a 36 man training squad is very deliberate. The Island’s talent pool is strong and we want to give every player who is performing the opportunity to train together and be part of the National team.

“The numbers give real competition for places, let us assess different systems and manages training load,” Bass said.

The first test comes on Saturday May 2 against Hailwood Apollo at The Bowl, kick-off at 5pm.

A triangular tournament on the Island follows in July.

Bass said: “July will be a crucial month, with fixtures giving us the chance to experiment tactically and see how players respond to tournament football.”

Bass, alongside Matthew Woods and Rick Holden, is focused on the long-term strategy.

“We have the Faroe Islands 2027 to prepare for and then the Isle of Man hosted Games in 2029 where our ambition is to win the Gold Medal on home soil,” he added.
