A motorcyclist who crossed double white lines to overtake a car driven by an off-duty police officer has been fined.
Nathan Reid, 19, of Castletown pleaded guilty to one charge of driving without due and attention.
Reid was riding his bike, for which he only currently has a provisional license, over the Mountain Road at about 1.20pm on April 27 when he overtook a car driving by the police officer.
In doing so he went over the white lines and then had to pull in as there was vehicle coming the other way.
In an interview he said he couldn’t remember doing it but accepted it was him, telling officers he was “inexperienced” and had made a “silly mistake”.
Duty advocate Emily Brennan said Reid had accepted his guilt early and noted that he had not been involved in any crash, rather he had “misjudged” the circumstances.
She also offered his apologies to the court and made a plea on his behalf to allow him to keep his licence as he is due to take his full test soon.
Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood fined Reid £650 and ordered him to pay £50 costs, as well as putting five points on his licence.
