The British Medical Association says it hopes to sit down with the Chief Minister and Manx Care and avoid strike action.
A union spokesperson told Manx.News that it wants to ensure doctors on the island have fair pay and conditions.
When Alf Cannan wrote to the BMA this week, he told its local representatives that “further substantial increase to headline pay is not financially sustainable without securing offsetting savings from elsewhere to meet this”.
Mr Cannan said he is not opposed to doctors and consultants receiving a salary that reflects the vital work they do, but that the island could look to follow Jersey’s example where an “affordable pay deal was secured alongside the reconfiguration of clinical services that deliver more value for money”.
Responding to the letter, the BMA said: “Every doctor on the Isle of Man deserves to be paid a fair salary for the work they do and to work in a health service that is fit for purpose, recognises doctors’ worth and provides the best standards of care to its patients.
“We hope to meet with the Chief Minister and the CEO of Manx Care very soon and we remain committed to negotiated solution that avoids strike action, and which provides doctors with fair pay and working conditions.”
