Christa Cain and Simon Scott – both looking remarkably fresh – celebrate their Marathon performances in Boston yesterday with some well-deserved rehydration!
Christa’s time of 2:46:53 was a personal best by nearly four minutes, and moves her up to fifth place on my unofficial all-time IOM Marathon ranking list for women.
Only the late Brenda Walker, Sarah Webster, Margaret Lockley and Jess Draskau-Petersson are ahead of her, which in itself says how good her run was as they are four of the greats of Manx athletics.
Boston Marathon
Christa tells me that it was a hard course, with the hills in the middle of the race making it hard to judge how much to save for them or to know how to pace them – especially with it being so warm. She says it was a very well-organised event, and that the support from the crowds was “insane the whole way, my ears are still ringing now!”
Simon’s time of 3:26:51 was just over a minute outside his personal best, but on such a warm day it was an excellent run.
Phoebe Coates also had an excellent run, finishing in 3:01:09.
It’s about three minutes outside the time she ran in Belfast a year ago, but looks like a really solid performance and lots more experience gained!
