Brown ‘delighted’ That MNH is ‘investing’ in Castletown

The Chair of Castletown Commissioners says he is ‘delighted’ the former Barclays bank building will be taken over by Manx National Heritage.

MNH has submitted a planning application to turn the property into a centre which could have a retail space, visitor hub and offices on its upper level.

Tony Brown says the commissioners met with the organisation to express its concerns about the lack of support for its museums and he believes a partnership is ‘critical’ for the future of the town.

Investing in Town

Manx National Heritage has confirmed the project, if granted planning permission, will be funded independently of the grant received from Treasury.

Mr Brown says MNH taking on the building shows a ‘commitment’ to Castletown but thinks the government needs to be providing more support.

Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper has been speaking to him:

Government has been invited to respond to Mr Brown’s comments
