Café Noa at Market Hall has issued a public response after being listed among businesses receiving a low food hygiene rating during recent inspections.
The café, which operates separately from Noa Bakehouse, emphasised transparency and swift action to address the issues raised.
In a statement titled the business acknowledged the inspection results but clarified that it had not yet received an official report. “We acted immediately on the action points raised,” the statement read.
The issues identified included insufficient detail on food labels and gaps in documenting daily cleaning and temperature checks.
“We always do [these checks], but hadn’t been logging them thoroughly enough,” the café admitted.
Complacency
The business attributed some of the shortcomings to complacency after 12 years without an inspection.
“We became complacent in some admin areas,” the statement said, adding that minor wear and tear, such as plug sockets and shelving, had been repaired “immediately.”
Café Noa stressed its commitment to high standards, calling the inspection a “wake-up call.”
The team affirmed, “We’re proud of the food we serve and the standards we hold ourselves to,” while pledging to improve record-keeping practices.
Café Noa’s full statement concluded with gratitude to customers: “Thank you to everyone who continues to support us. We’re committed to doing better.”

The Freedom of Information response listed 11 businesses that received low hygiene ratings during inspections between July 2024 and May 2025, including The Convenience Shopping Centre in Douglas, Eilan Vannin Fuels Ltd in Laxey and Delissimo in Onchan.
Other establishments named were Time Out Noodle Bar in Castletown, JR Riley LTD in Ballapaddag, Chengdu Impression Chinese Restaurant and Cafe Delight in Douglas, Babbages Bistro in Ramsey, Court Cafe in Ramsey, and Union Mills Football Club in Strang.
All were given a score of 1 and received informal action and advice, including written warnings.
The Department noted that a further 10 businesses were inspected but exempt from disclosure due to ongoing investigations.
