Christa Cain has wrapped up a flawless England Masters season with victory in the International 5K in Shrewsbury, securing her third national gold medal of the year.
Racing in sweltering conditions, Cain said she took a “run to get it done” approach as temperatures made the course far more demanding than expected.
Even so, she delivered a composed performance to take the women’s title and close out her final race in the W35 category.
The Shrewsbury win completes a clean sweep of England Masters road events for Cain, following earlier successes in the 10K at Bideford and the Half Marathon in Swansea.
The treble marks an exceptional run of form and provides a fitting conclusion before she moves into a new age group later this season.
