Caine to Contest Middle

Businessman and farmer Alf Caine has officially declared his candidacy for the Middle constituency.

Mr Caine, who has owned and operated Castleward Farm in Braddan since 1987, said his five decades of experience in manufacturing, construction and farming would bring “practical leadership, fresh thinking and real-world experience” to the constituency.

He said he has been vocal on government matters in recent years, raising concerns about accountability, planning and public finance through a Facebook page established in February 2026.

In his announcement, Mr Caine stated: “Government exists to serve the public, not the other way around.”

His campaign priorities include supporting pensioners and families facing rising living costs, improving access to affordable housing, and strengthening the private sector and farming community.

“The rising cost of living is placing huge pressure on pensioners, working families and businesses, while the lack of affordable housing is making it increasingly difficult for young people to remain on our Island and build their future here,” Mr Caine said.

He also pledged to address the “spiralling cost of our NHS” while protecting frontline healthcare services and to ensure government delivers better value for taxpayers.

Mr Caine said his experience comes from “hands-on involvement in manufacturing, construction and farming, industries that are vital to the future of the Isle of Man and our economy”.

He added: “Politics should be about listening to people and making practical decisions that improve everyday life. I am committed to being accessible, transparent and accountable to the people I represent.”

Jason Moore and Andre Risha have previously declared their intention to contest the seat.
