Onchan MHK Rob Callister says he has been contacted by “a number of constituents” struggling to renew their vehicle tax discs.
The struggles follow the withdrawal of Post Office counter services and the move toward a digital‑first system.
Mr Callister said he has held discussions with the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) Minister and officers at the Vehicle Test Centre, who are working on several improvements.
These include clearer guidance for customers and future software updates that will allow vehicles to show as taxed immediately once payment is made.
The DOI has also asked him to remind residents that renewal notices are normally issued around one month before expiry.
Delays
His comments follow earlier concerns raised by residents who reported delays and technical issues with the new system.
One motorist told Manx.News they were unable to complete their renewal online after the government website repeatedly failed to load.
They visited the Vehicle Test Centre in person but were told processing could take up to three weeks and that the vehicle should not be used until the new disc arrived, despite payment already being taken.
“There were half a dozen people ahead of me who can’t do online,” they said, adding that the former Post Office system processed the same transaction “instantly”.
The difficulties come after driver and vehicle services were withdrawn from Post Office counters on 31 March as part of a DoI modernisation programme expected to save around £675,000 per year.
Mr Callister encouraged any Onchan residents still experiencing problems to contact him.
