Carbon monoxide alarm provided early warning of danger

In the early hours of this morning (May 31), a carbon monoxide alarm provided an early warning of danger to the occupants of a property in the south of the island.

At approximately 2:10am two pumping appliances from Rushen Fire Station were mobilised to the report of smoke issuing into a residential property from the attached neighbouring dwelling, with a smell of burning and a carbon monoxide alarm operating.

On arrival smoke was found logging in the downstairs of the property.

An inspection of the neighbouring house identified that smoke was passing between the properties from a domestic Coal fire which was subsequently extinguished.

Both properties were ventilated and gas monitoring equipment was utilised to monitor the air in each of the homes.

As a result of this incident two individuals were checked over by the Isle Of Man Ambulance Service.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service says that the carbon monoxide alarm provided an early warning of danger to the occupants during sleeping hours and highlights the importance of detection alarms within domestic properties.
