The Department of Infrastructure says the original cats’ eyes on the Beinn‑y‑Phott Road were deliberately covered and replaced with new studs as part of recent works.
A spokesperson said this approach was chosen because it was “the most efficient and cost‑effective” method.
They said it avoided unnecessary removal while still meeting road‑safety standards.
