The Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the appointment of the new Council of Ministers, while urging the administration to move quickly to address the island’s economic challenges.
Chamber President Claire Watterson said the Chief Minister had listened to the business community, pointing to a greater emphasis on entrepreneurial thinking and economic understanding within the new government.
She said there is now an opportunity to turn that intent into action, but warned that delays in decision-making could see opportunities for growth missed.
The Chamber said businesses need an environment where they can invest, innovate, access skilled workers and compete successfully. It highlighted the importance of proportionate regulation, faster decisions, modern technology and connectivity, as well as strong branding for the island.
Foundation for Collaboration
She said the Chamber had already carried out significant work on the future of the economy and skills, which could provide a foundation for collaboration with the new administration.
She added that economic growth should not be seen as the responsibility of a single department, arguing that all government departments have a role to play in creating the conditions for a stronger and more sustainable economy.
The Chamber said it looked forward to working with the Chief Minister, economic ministers and the wider Council of Ministers to help deliver what it described as the pace, focus and practical action needed to support the island’s future prosperity.
