It was announced in Tynwald this morning that the Isle of Man’s Assisted Dying Bill has been granted Royal Assent.
President Juan Watterson announced the bill was granted Royal Assent on October 16.
The Assisted Dying Bill 2023 was introduced as a Private Member’s Bill by former Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson.
Earlier this year, Tynwald approved a package of amendments to the Assisted Dying Bill after concerns raised by the UK Ministry of Justice over human rights compliance.
The changes strengthened safeguards around coercion, vulnerability and independent oversight, paving the way for Royal Assent.
In July, Jersey cleared the final constitutional hurdle in its bid to introduce assisted dying, after its legislation received Royal Assent.
