Arlo’s Adventure has handed over a supply of miscarriage collection cradles to Noble’s Hospital.
The supply was in a shared effort to offer more dignified and compassionate care to women experiencing pregnancy loss.
The cradle, which fits on any standard toilet, offers a simple yet profound improvement in how tissue is collected following a miscarriage.
Compassionate Care
Each kit includes a removable collection component, and a watertight, opaque container, which is suitable for temporary refrigeration prior to any required testing, burial or cremation.
All of this is sealed in a discreet bag, for use at home when clinically appropriate.
Developed by Laura Corcoran from the Dignity Care Network, who drew on her own experience of miscarriage, the cradle aims to provide a process that is practical, respectful, and led by empathy.
Miscarriage
Vicky Christian from Arlo’s Adventure said: “The experience of miscarriage is deeply personal and often traumatic. These cradles offer a level of dignity and privacy that many women haven’t had previously.
“We’re proud to support Manx Care in taking another meaningful step toward compassionate miscarriage care.”
Regan Baggley, Head of Midwifery at Manx Care, added: “We are really grateful to Arlo’s Adventure for enabling us to offer this option to women in our care.
“Providing a safe and thoughtful way to manage miscarriage at home, when suitable, gives women greater control and privacy during a vulnerable time.”
Pregnancy Loss
Regan added: “This follows last year’s opening of the Bluebell Suite, a private room at Noble’s’ Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, designed specifically for parents experiencing miscarriage and baby loss.
“It is a sanctuary designed to offer privacy, compassion, comfort and care during a profoundly difficult time.”
The charity will continue to fund and supply these cradles as needed.
