Manx athlete Christa Cain has been crowned British Masters Half Marathon Champion 2026 after a brilliant performance at the Swansea Half Marathon.
She finished 5th overall and 1st in her age group.
Cain clocked an impressive 75:11, a result she described as hugely satisfying after “a rocky few months of illness and niggles” and despite far from ideal race conditions.
The middle section of the course, kilometres 5 to 13, saw runners battling strong headwinds, leaving Cain isolated for a spell.
Despite that, she delivered what she rated as a “solid 9/10 on execution”, especially coming off a heavy training week and with uncertainty about her current fitness.
The victory adds another major accolade to Cain’s growing list of achievements and marks a strong return to form ahead of the summer racing season.
Islanders in Action
Another excellent performance came from Dawn Atherton, who continued her remarkable progress by clocking a personal best of 1:22:50.
Dawn finished 20th woman overall and fourth in the women’s 40 age category.
Competing on a course revised since last year, Dawn had to contend with persistent headwinds and humid conditions.
Despite finding the middle section of the race particularly challenging, she rallied strongly over the closing miles, producing an impressive finish to slice 33 seconds from her previous best and break the 1hr 23min barrier for the first time.
In the men’s race, which attracted almost 7,000 runners, the ever-consistent Mark Burman also impressed with a time of 1:15:20. Mark finished 51st overall and 13th in the highly competitive men’s 40 category.
The trio’s performances ensured that the Isle of Man was prominently represented among the leading finishers at one of Wales’ premier road-running events.
