Commissioners’ by-elections will be required after four local authority members were elected as MHKs in this year’s general election.
Katryna Baptist, Juan McGuinness, Kirrie Jenkins and Richard Henthorn all topped their respective polls on Thursday night.
Also elected with local authority connections was the Clerk of Port St Mary Commissioners Mark Kemp and the former chair of Ramsey Commissioners, Rob Cowell.
Both Baptist and McGuinness topped their respective polls, Peel and Ramsey Commissioners, in the Local Authority Elections in April 2025.
For residents living in Peel, Ramsey, Arbory and Rushen and Garff’s Laxey Ward, a by-election will now be needed in each to fill the empty seats.
Ramsey residents will be looking for at least three people to stand – two have been left vacant after a series of resignations earlier this year.
Peel, Arbory and Rushen and Garff’s Laxey Ward just need one extra person to join their boards.
Onchan and Douglas Council had the highest number of members stand, but none were successful.
Most notably, Council Leader Devon Watson came fourth in Douglas Central – whilst 20-year-old Gabriella Corkish was fifth in Onchan.
If polling is to take place, local authorities generally need about six weeks to organise a by-election.
Dates for these by-elections will be announced by the local authorities in due course.
