Children across the island are being encouraged to reflect on how we care for the world in the latest One World Centre SDG Poster Competition, launched this week.
The annual contest invites school‑age entrants to design a poster showing ways we can look after land and the species that depend on it.
There are two entry classes, primary and secondary, with winners receiving £50 creative vouchers and runners‑up £25 vouchers.
This year’s theme focuses on UN Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land, which promotes protecting ecosystems, managing forests sustainably, tackling land degradation and halting biodiversity loss.
One World Centre Coordinator Wendy Shimmin said nature underpins human wellbeing, noting that plants provide 80% of our diet, forests absorb carbon emissions, and more than 2.6 billion people rely on agriculture for their livelihoods. She added that habitat loss and soil erosion threaten both biodiversity and food security.
Last year’s competition, themed around SDG14 Life Below Water, attracted a record 335 entries, and organisers hope for similar enthusiasm this year.
