Consultation to Boost Voluntary Land Registration

Tim Johnston MHK

The government has opened a six‑week consultation seeking views on how to encourage more residents and property owners to voluntarily register their land.

The Land Registry, part of the Central Registry, is reviewing potential incentives to increase uptake after Tynwald backed recommendations from the Constitutional and Legal Affairs and Justice Committee’s report on adverse possession and land registration.

Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston MHK said a more complete Land Register would “strengthen transparency, streamline property transactions and support long‑term strategic planning”, but warned progress was slower than it could be.

He urged land and property owners to take part, adding that public feedback would help shape “meaningful incentives to drive further progress”.

The consultation closes on May 4 and is available here. A summary of responses will be submitted to Tynwald.
