A campaign group wants to know if it’s feasible to reopen the historic rail link between Douglas and Peel.
The old railway line is currently a walking and cycling path known as the Heritage Trail.
The Douglas to Peel Railway Feasibility Group formed ahead of the election to ask candidates about an investigation into reviving the route.
The group asks candidates to consider a volunteer-led model without public funding for the project similar to the Queen’s Pier Restoration Trust in Ramsey.
The group commented on the responses received: “We were pleased with the level of engagement from candidates on this issue.
“It’s clear there’s a genuine mix of views, and we respect that reopening a railway line raises real questions around cost and competing priorities.
“But there’s also a strong appetite to at least look properly at the facts, rather than dismiss the idea outright.
“That’s all we’re asking for at this stage — a proper, honest feasibility study, and protection of what remains of the trackbed while that conversation continues.”
In the meantime, the group asks for the protection of the existing infrastructure of the railway line to preserve the possibility of reopening in the future.
