Douglas City Council has confirmed its operational arrangements for the forthcoming Christmas and New Year period.
This includes its changes to refuse and kerbside collections, opening times for Council facilities, and details of the annual free Christmas tree recycling initiative.
As Christmas Day in 2025 falls on a Thursday, households whose refuse is normally collected that day will instead have their collection on Saturday, December 27.
Refuse Collection
Wheelie bins should be placed out on the evening of Friday 26 December for collection the following morning.
Refuse collections for New Year’s Day will also change; Homes scheduled for collection on January 1 will have their refuse collected on January 3, 2026.
Bins should be placed out on the evening of January 2.
All other domestic refuse collections across Douglas will continue as normal over the festive period.
Kerbside Collection
When it comes to kerbside collections, changes are as follows:
• Round 4 (due Thursday, December 25) will be collected on Monday, December 22;
• Round 5 (due Friday, December 26) will be collected on Saturday, December 27;
• Round 9 (due Thursday, January 1) will be collected on Monday, January 5.
Recyclable waste can also be taken to the Eastern Civic Amenity Site or to the bring-bank sites at the Grandstand and Tesco’s Lake Road store.
Containers or bags containing only one material type may be left out alongside kerbside boxes. Mixed materials should not be presented.
The Eastern Civic Amenity Site will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Opening hours on all other days remain 8am to 4pm, with last entry at 3.45pm.
Tree Recycling
The Council will once again run its popular free Christmas tree recycling initiative, giving residents an easy and environmentally friendly way to dispose of their real trees after the festive season.
This annual service helps reduce waste, supports the city’s sustainability goals and ensures trees are reused for the benefit of local parks, gardens and Summerhill Glen.
Collections will take place on January 10, at the following locations and times:
- Noble’s Park (Grandstand Car Park) | 9am – 9.45am
- Governor’s Hill (adjacent to play area) | 10am – 10.45am
- Willaston (Snaefell Road, opposite shops) | 11am – 11.45am
- Farmhill (Stevenson’s Way) | 12pm – 12.45pm
- Anagh Coar (car park) | 1pm – 1.45pm
- Pulrose (shops) | 2pm – 2.45pm
- Central Promenade (opposite the Palace Hotel) | 3pm – 3.45pm
- Lord Street Car Park (adjacent to Barbary Coast) | 4pm – 4.30pm
Natural trees can also be taken to the Eastern Civic Amenity Site. Chipped material will be reused in the city’s parks, gardens and Summerhill Glen.
