Crafting Next Decade of Manx Sport

The government is working on plans to develop a new 10 year sports strategy for the island.

Minister Daphne Caine outlined the plans which include the island hosting the 2029 Island Games.

Mrs Caine said the strategy will aim to “increase participation in sport and physical activity for all, develop sustainable, inclusive facilities and promote health and well being throughout the community”.

She added: “We are also proud to have successfully secured hosting of the Island games in 2029 which is anticipated to bring 1000s of athletes and spectators, strengthening community engagement and sports tourism.”

While CEO Graham Kinrade added that the island is in a good place ahead of hosting the games and adding “we know what needs doing”.

The Minister also emphasised the importance of this investment, saying it will be “critical for all our island, and continues to be a crucial part of maintaining a healthy and thriving community”.
