The Isle of Man u17 cricket side have lost their first game in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Europe Division 2 Qualifiers in Copenhagen.
A cancelled flight left the side with a gruelling 40 hour trip to Copenhagen, arriving just after midnight ahead of their game against the Netherlands.
Just hours later the side was in action, facing a skilled and determined Dutch attack.
Put into bat first, the Manx side reached 72 all out in 32.2 overs, with Ryder Spencer (12), Kai Kiernan and Kyle Gunnion all spending time at the crease, with Joel Williams 17 and Aaron Chadwick 12 playing with aggressive intent.
The Dutch side lost two wickets to the talented Manx bowlers, but ultimate picked up 74 runs to win the game in 13.1 overs.
Isle of Man Cricket said: “A challenging first day for the IoM against a strong Netherlands side with lessons learnt from their Dutch counterparts for tomorrow’s game against France and moving forward.”
