The Health Minister says there is no reliable way to report how many people supported by the Crisis Response and Home Treatment Team go on to need further emergency intervention within 7 to 30 days.
Minster Claire Christian MHK also says the Department cannot accurately report how many individuals make repeat contact with the team within a month.
In a written answer to Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher, Minister Christian said the RIO system has no digital mechanism to extract this information, and producing it would require manual scrutiny of all contacts, as well as data from partner agencies.
Mental Health Crisis
She added that repeat contact within 30 days does not necessarily indicate an unsuccessful intervention, noting that mental health crises can fluctuate and that people with long‑term conditions may need multiple periods of support. In some cases, early repeat contact can help prevent deterioration or hospital admission.
The Minister confirmed that 5% of referrals ended because the situation had improved or the service was no longer required.
Where someone disengages before resolution, the team carries out follow‑up based on risk, which may include phone calls, home visits, liaison with family or GPs, referrals to other services, or welfare checks.
The CRHTT receives around 2,000 calls a month and handled 1,906 referrals in 2025/26. Of these, 8% resulted in admission to Manannan Court, while 40% were discharged to a care team, 18% to community services, and 20% back to their GP.
