The introduction of digital driving licences is being considered alongside work to modernise driving and vehicle records.
However, DoI Minister Dr Michelle Haywood said there is no timeframe on when or if they will be introduced.
Dr Haywood was asked by Jason Moorhouse (Arbory, Castletown and Malew) whether a timeline is in place to make driving licences available in the form of a smartphone app?
She confirmed that driver and vehicle services are currently being reviewed as part of a wider project looking at digitising records to enable people to manage their own records and that this would include looking at digital licences.
However, she added that “there is no timeline in place as to when digital driving licenses will be available”.
Sadly Dr Haywood did not had any further info about the proposal or how it was being funded when asked by Mr Moorhouse and Chris Thomas (Douglas Central) but said she would get it for them.
