The Department of Infrastructure has had to submit a new application for its sea wall on Harris Promenades after its previous permission ran out.
Approved planning applications have a four year window for work to begin, with the deadline passing at the start of May.
The 1.2m wall will run from the War Memorial north along the promenade on top of the existing sea wall as a bid to protect the prom, road and horse trams from overtopping during storms and high tides.
A spokesman for the DoI said that its new applications was “now in place (24/00743/B) with work fully commenced on a section to the north of Broadway”.
He added: “The new submission is identical to the previous one (19/00755) which expired on May 1, 2024.
“The DoI notified the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture that it wished to continue with works and confirmed that a further planning application would be submitted in order to regularise the situation.”
The application is indeed identical, with the department saying it hopes to begin building the wall in “October 2018”.
If permission is received, the wall will be 1.2m in height and stretch up to the Empress Hotel on Central Promenade.
When approval was granted on appeal in May 2020, it was done so having previously been refused by the planning committee.
