The Department of Infrastructure has requested guidance to change the colours of the Electric Railway Sign to align with charitable organisations.
In response to a Freedom of Information request, the DoI confirmed that while it does not routinely alter the colour of its exterior lighting, it remains open to considering requests from recognised and responsible organisations.
Since the lighting system was first installed, officials say they have received only one such request for a colour change.
Missing Technical Guidance
An FoI queried as to why the Electric Railway sign never changed to different colours when numerous landmarks across the island are changed multiple times a year to coincide with specific dates.
In the response, the DoI explained that efforts to make adjustments have been slowed by technical hurdles.
According to the DoI, the original staff members who commissioned and programmed the lighting have since left the organisation, leaving current teams without the necessary operational guidance.
To reconfigure the system, updated instructions from the lighting supplier are required. Although the DoI has formally sought this guidance, the supplier has so far been unable to provide the needed support.
A spokesperson acknowledged the frustration caused by the delay and said the Department hopes to resolve the issue once the necessary technical information becomes available.
