Police have made 13 arrests for drink or drug driving so far this festive season.
With a traditionally busy weekend ahead, the Roads Policing Unit has issued a stern warning to motorists.
A police spokesperson said: “We do not want anyone else to be arrested, but we will take action against those who choose to drive after drinking or taking drugs.”
Officers will be patrolling in both marked and unmarked vehicles. The public are urged to plan their journeys home in advance this Christmas.
“Do not risk being arrest number 14 and ruining Christmas,” the spokesperson added. “Take a bus, book a taxi or arrange a lift so you and others can get home safely.”
