Don’t be Rude to Staff

Café Red in Port Erin has appealed for patience from customers after an incident involving a man verbally abusing two young members of staff.

The business said two new young employees were working their first shift and were still learning the layout and routines. With the venue busy, this led to a short delay, around nine minutes, for a milkshake order.

Staff say the customer began shouting, demanding a refund and calling the café “a shambles”, despite the drink being moments away from being served.

Management stressed that their milkshakes take time to prepare and are not “just powder mixed in milk”, and urged customers to raise any concerns with the manager rather than confronting staff, especially those on their first day.

They added that behaviour like this can put young people off working in hospitality and asked the public to show understanding as new team members find their feet.
