Douglas Rugby Club will head to Bowdon for round nine of the Regional 2 North West campaign today.
The Douglas headlines centre around injuries to key players last week.
Added to James Ross extending his absence to allow hamstrings to fix, Simon Hoddinott, Sam McCord and Liam Kirkpatrick are hors de combat and needing a miraculous change of fortune to be available.
So to have quality in reserve is a bonus, and Conor Garland, Blake Everson, Cal Dentith and Wilf Kermode could be looking at starting roles, and Carl Markl-Ferns a remarkable return too.
Bowdon Bound
Owen Carvin has had good news on an injury that threatened to be a longer lasting problem, hence his appearance for the Casuals, and Wilf Hewson may add to the family album of caps alongside brother Harry.
Of course it won’t be easy, and Douglas are used to that scenario.
The bonus point total of seven, equal second alongside Bowdon, speaks volumes of the character that coach Phil Cringle has nourished and developed.
Long gone are the days of loafing like vagrants in Liverpool all morning, or the frantic dash from aircraft to coach to ground to kick-off with minimum preparation time, if any.
Although early departures and late arrivals back in the IoM are still de rigueur, that’s been the clubs bread and butter since 1987.
