Dr Michelle Haywood has announced she will seek re-election for Rushen in September’s General Election.
The former teacher, first elected in 2021, said serving as an MHK had been “a great privilege but also a responsibility that I have taken seriously, particularly at times when trust in politics is often under strain”.
Dr Haywood highlighted her constituency work as a key part of her first term, saying: “Much of my time has been spent helping Rushen residents navigate day-to-day issues where I could, and being a strong advocate for change when this has been necessary.”
She added: “People deserve an MHK who is accessible, prepared to ask difficult questions and follow issues through, even when this may be uncomfortable for Government and individual Ministers.”
The former DoI Minister added: “If re-elected for a second term, I will build on my experience and knowledge from my first term, remain engaged with local concerns and work constructively to secure practical, fair outcomes for the Rushen community and the Island as a whole.”
She confirmed she looks forward to “continuing conversations with local constituents about our hopes for the future and the challenges and priorities ahead”.
Her constituency colleague Speaker Juan Watterson has yet to declare his intention regarding re-election.
Laurence Vaughan‑Williams and Simon Williams have previously declared their intention to stand.
