A boy was rescued by firefighters and coastguard officers after becoming stuck on a cliff at Laxey this afternoon.
A coastguard spokersperson said: “At 2pm this afternoon, a 999 call was received by our team in the Marine Operations Centre at the Sea Terminal reporting a boy stuck on a cliff on the coast of Laxey Bay.
“He was in danger of falling, but managing to hold on to a Gorse bush above a circa 12m drop.”
Coastguard officers were on the scene in minutes and, after assessing the situation, called for the assistance of firefighters.
“After assessing the options for rescue, and the lack of immediate access from above, the duty officer requested the assistance of the Fire & Rescue Service’s Laxey crew with their ladder as the quickest and safest option, given the time critical nature of the incident,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, coastguard officers arranged items at the bottom of the cliff to create a cushion in case of a fall.
“The crews worked together to position the ladder on the cliff. A member of the fire crew then ascended and accompanied the boy back down to safety.”
